Extractive Sector SOE Reform Workshop Held

Two-day Exractive Sector SOEs Reform Workshop was held at Horizon Lake View Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw on 21-22, February, 2019.

 

To present the existing status of State-owned enterprise, to share and discuss the knowledge of International and national reform lessons and  to discuss the future activies and plan for reforming on SOEs were emphasized in this workshop.

Deputy Minister of Ministry of Planning and Finance or Chair of MSG, MSG Vice Chair, MSG members, Members of Amyothar Hluttaw, National Coordinator, Departmental Officials from Ministry of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Energy and Electricity and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, National and International Organization Officials related with Extractive Sector SOEs reform and other observers were joined the workshop.

In the first day, U Maung Maung Win, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Planning and Finance gave the opening speech. National Coordinator U Soe Win also gave the remarks for the objectives on organizing this workshop. Officials from budget Department (Sub-department of State-owned Enterprise), Treasury Department, Central Statistical Organization, Project Appraisal and Progress Reporting Department, Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise, Department of Mining, No.1 Mining Enterprise, No.2 Mining Enterprise, Myanmar Gems Enterprise, Myanmar Pearl Enterprise and Myanmar Timber Enterprise presented the governance of SOEs, policy and future plans respectively. The attendee also discussed and asked the questions.

In the day two, Captain U Than Htun, Managing Director of Myanmar National Airline-MNA presented the experiance of transformation from SOE to coporation. Officials from Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) briefly presented the re-cap of first day and also shared their presentation on the sectorized approaches to reform the SOEs and suggestions in each sector for transaction and then the group discussion were made and presented the explanation from each group.

After the group discussion, continuously, U Khin Latt Gyi, Director General of Department of Mining or vice chair of MSG gave the closing remark.
